Soon as the train arrived Straight to the Greenwich dives Living it up untouched By the teeth, and the bad vibes Finally found my home Finally found my guy Living it up, proud enough To dance cheek to cheek Cheek to cheek Lets try and find a way, to live again Lets try and find a way, come on, to live again Days we made the bed Days we danced with death Darkness came so quick One night, you were sick Asking man what’s the crime Ain't love, God’s design? Darkness came so quick Like a plague, we got hit Lets try and find a way, to live again Lets try and find a way, come on, to live again In the days of love and in the days of learning I remember it well In the days of sex and in the days of dancing I remember it well In the days gone by, we found pleasure, in our pride Breaking out the chains I wouldn’t trade for anything Goodbye, goodbye Lets try and find a way, to live again Lets try and find a way, come on, to live again

Firefly 03:19
Artists, believers, That’s us, on the magic bus Smoking, I’m choking Breaking up, on the magic bus Slow down if you’re seeing the faces in the fire Creepy, creepy is the magic bus We’re breaking up It’s just us, and the Fireflies, in the, darkest night Like a divine guide to all, that I want to be I saw, fireflies, in the, darkest night Like a divine guide to all, that I want to be Shooters, cruisers, that’s us On the magic bus Freaking, feeling the world around us Getting up Tricky are the maps on the magic bus Bumpy are the roads ahead of us Let it bump Let it bump, into the stratosphere, yea we’re weird but there’s nothing to fear, just a bunch of dopey dogs, don’t you know? It’s just us, and the Fireflies, in the, darkest night Like a divine guide to all, that I want to be I saw, fireflies, in the, darkest night Like a divine guide to all, that I want to be

Right! 02:00
In the winter where the devil dwells, right? Right! It looks like heaven but it feels like hell, right? Right! They say, do what you can But I’m a left, left handed man Right? Right! I bought a soul off the internet, right? Right! It just looks like a dog chomped on it, right? Right! They say, do what you can But I’m a left, left handed man right? Right! I need bubble, gum and booze, right? Right! Whatever gets me through, right? Right! Through, through to you Through, through to you

The Shame 03:21
I’m all about it now, why? Because god is on my side, why? Well I’m in deep deep trouble, why? Because god told me so, why? He’s in the background singing, why? Are you so gullible? I’m a sinner tonight I can’t help walkin the line Save me from the flames I swear I won’t do it again Save me from myself Because the shame keeps walking on me It’s all a mystery, why? He keeps forgiving me, why? I know I’ve hustled people, why? They’ve hustled me, why? And we all keep walking the line Save me from the flames I swear I won’t do it again Save me from myself Because the shame keeps walking on me Save me from the flames I swear I won’t do it again Save me from myself Because the shame keeps walking on me When I’m getting high On me when I’m going, out at night On me when I need a light Because the shame, the shame keeps walking on me (repeats until end)

Girl of mine, I’m so shy You got me working overtime For what, a touch? That’s just not enough Miss beautiful, you’re too cool To love a man who’s vulnerable So what? I blush Is love not enough? So stand up And show me! Your sweetest kiss Don’t tell me, you can kiss like this Aw show me, you’re sweetest kiss Don’t tell me, you can kiss like this You’re mighty fine, I’m too kind Is it just, not worth trying? To talk it out, just us, on the couch Miss self-aware, you’re too scared To have a hand run through your hair And feel the rush, that electric touch I’m talking bout lips, tongue Trading, gum Real real girls, come on, don’t be shy And show me! Your sweetest kiss Don’t tell me, you can kiss like this Aw show me, you’re sweetest kiss Don’t tell me, you can kiss like this Will all the people, clap your hands? All the people, clap your hands (repeats until end)

I feel like, I just need a shoulder Someone who can be there when I’m crying I just feel, like I need someone To be there when I’m sad Holding on to what we’ve got Is just bad What I need, is what we had in the beginning Nothing much to talk about, just living But I’m proud of how it all went down I’m proud we’re not dragging it, to the ground Remember the scene when the night seemed to sing Stop cuz your man’s on fire! Singing for the people who do, what feels right But what’s changed? It’s all a game we decide To play, we go or we stay I just hope, you find your way, back home Stop cuz your man’s on fire! I got you, stuck in my heart but I refuse To let you go I got you, stuck in my heart but I refuse To let you go I got you, stuck in my heart but I refuse To let you go

Bold, welcoming, beautiful, often funny. JOAN is touched, a genre-hopping soul parade.

JOAN is...

Album Credits:

JOAN's motto is "the feel is the family." There are many wonderful people in the JOAN "family" without the help of whom we literally wouldn't have been able to make this debut album happen. We'd like to thank each of these individuals for their respective contributions in helping us realize "the feel."

Matt Fishman - Our brilliant executive producer. In addition to overseeing the overall production (recording, mixing, incessant editing + refining) of this album, Matt played keys on 'Greenwich Dives', 'Firefly', 'Mrs. Discover', 'Miami Night', 'The People's Bread', 'Lion Tamer', 'Sweetest Kiss', and 'Life of Dogs'. He played bass on 'Greenwich Dives', 'Mrs. Discover', 'Miami Night', and 'Sweetest Kiss', he played trombone on 'Firefly', 'Mrs. Discover', 'Sweetest Kiss', and 'Life of Dogs', and he wrote the percussion parts for all the songs (with the exception of 'Right!', 'Proud of That', and 'Sunnyside'). Matt also sang harmonies in 'Firefly', 'Mrs. Discover', 'The People's Bread', and 'Life of Dogs,' whistled in 'Lion Tamer', and snapped in 'The Shame', 'The People's Bread', and 'Sweetest Kiss'. Thank you for embracing and encouraging our weirdness, Fat Matt! We love you.

George Farmer - George has played bass for a number of broadway productions. Needless to say, he's really good. He's also a cool enough person to have contributed the killer bass tracks to "Firefly" and "Mrs. Discover" out of nothing but the kindness of his heart.

Jeri Silverman - A sweetheart with a sweet voice! Jeri sang harmonies in 'Lion Tamer', 'The Shame', 'Sweetest Kiss', and 'Proud of That'. Her voice exudes raw and beautiful energy, and we are honored to have had the pleasure of working with her. ***Her super nice boyfriend, Josh Adler, also contributed mouth horn and positive vibes on 'Sweetest Kiss'.

Joan Puchalski - We share names and a penchant for middle-shelf whiskey. JOAN has a beautiful and silky voice, and she sang backups on 'Lion Tamer', 'The Shame', and 'Sweetest Kiss'.

Graeme Daubert - Bass player for JOAN's live act (he's also the frontman of Alpenglow). Graeme is a soulman with a soulman's voice and hum, which one can hear on 'Jesus Freak' and on 'Life of Dogs'.

Chris Jobson - Effervescent and a born musician. Chris threw down some crisp cello parts on 'Greenwich Dives' and 'Life of Dogs'. He also contributed some notable shouts on 'The People's Bread'. We love you, Chris. Don't move to LA! There's a couch for you here if you want it (seriously, though).

Franz Rueggerberg - An old friend with a raspy voice that cuts straight to the heart. Franz sang vocals at the end of 'The Shame' that will undoubtedly inspire tears from some listeners. We love you, Franzy boy.

Yannick Hughes - Another old friend. Yannick is the vocalist of Cool Company (Matt Fishman's main squeeze), and has the kind of delicious-sounding voice that music people attribute only to great divas. He shows off his pipes at the end of 'Life of Dogs'.

Not all of the members of the JOAN family were directly involved in the music making process of this album. Importantly, these individuals have come to play crucial roles in helping the band to actualize its identity and to spread its music. We'd like to now thank each member of the JOAN team respectively:

Nanda Golden- JOAN's fearless and ingenious marketer and manager. When we met Nanda, he was sitting at a picnic table on a crisp autumn evening in 2014. He sat with his notepad and offered us a seat when we couldn't find one. Something clicked. He's since helped us to illuminate and articulate our identity succinctly and honestly. He's also become a dear friend, and we look forward to continuing to work and grow and cook with him!

Amelia Kreminski- Nanda introduced us to Amelia on a cold winter night at Union Hall in Park Slope. She asked us questions and took notes. In addition to infectious smile, we're impressed by her talents as a writer and as a sensitive observer of music and human interaction. To our east Texas buddy and rebellious prom queen contender-- nothing but love!

Jue Yang- Punk rock screen artist guru. She's got spunk and love and true talent as an artist of aesthetics, of coding, of semantics, of language, of storytelling. Like two pieces of jade fused together, her being is powerful and deliberate. She also has an impressively discerning palate.

Chloe Mossessian- The Jean Luc-Godard of her generation. JOAN is lucky enough to have sweet Chloe as their videographer (stay tuned for the 'Mrs. Discover' music video). We're looking forward to a lifetime of collaboration with her.

Courtney Mooney - Our resident minister and spiritual compass, who understood and embraced JOAN's vision from the beginning. Court laid down some silky attitude in the hip-hop section of 'Firefly', side by side with her soul-mate Nick.
